Exclusive interview with an American who was near the London attack

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA - One of our reporters had a friend in London at the time of the attack today, and gave us an inside look at what happened. Reporter Mackenzie Maynard sat in on the phone call between reporter Crystal Garcia and Heather Brooker, just moments after the attack happened.

"They've shut down the London Eye," Brooker said in the conversation. "They're evacuating it, they won't tell us anything."

The video clip featured above in the story is what Brooker posted just moments after the London attack, before she knew what happened.

"We arrived at the London Eye, shortly after we got there security was ushering everyone out," she said. "They were closing things down, evacuating passengers, and we didn't know what was going on."

Brooker is with her husband and daughter on their family vacation. The photos featured in the video above she took this morning while at Westminster Abbey just before the London Eye.

"We're here on our family vacation, never even thinking anything like this could happen and literally it happens steps before where we just were," Brooker said.

it's something no parent prepares for as they're packing for a family vacation, but she says they're going to do their best to stay calm and alert.

"We're going to continue on with our vacation as best as possible," Brooker said. "It's a little scary, it happened right where we were."
