Car accident on Columbia Dr. roundabout described as "scene out of a movie"

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA - Traffic was backed up near the Columbia Drive roundabout for some time this afternoon. Luckily, there were no major injuries, but it was a scary scene for those who witnessed the crazy accident.

Reporter Mackenzie Maynard spoke with witness Joe Witte, who described it like a scene out of a movie.

"Over the top of a van," he exclaimed. "Literally over the top of a van."

He's not talking about a bird or a plane...he's talking about a car. In fact, Witte and the driver of the van were still replaying what exactly happened just moments after the accident.

"He went all the way down there at fifty miles an hour and came flying out, literally cleared the entire road," Witte explained. "Came down right about where the DOT truck is now, hit that yield sign and came to stop where the tow truck is now."

Witte told Mackenzie Maynard he thinks the guy was speeding away after he clipped the back of Witte's truck on 395...that's when Witte followed him and couldn't believe what came next.

"He was pretty much out of it and we couldn't get him out because the doors were all jammed shut."

The driver was taken to Trios but is expected to be okay.
