Rep. Newhouse to host Veterans Service Fair

Posted: Updated:

Rep. Dan Newhouse will host a veterans service fair this Saturday in Pasco, in what he calls a one stop shop for resources needed by veterans in our community.

This isn't the first veterans service fair Newhouse has put on. Last year he says the one in Yakima was so successful he thought bringing the concept of pooling resources together at the same place and time to Tri-Cities was a no-brainer.

Newhouse says in his mind, since there are so many different areas that local veterans might need assistance with, he believes bringing all of them together to one place at the same time would best serve their needs.

"Transportation, it could be healthcare, could be educational opportunities, counseling opportunities, all kinds of things that veterans may need assistance with. So we're bringing them all together in one place. Kind of a one-stop shopping, if you will."

More than 30 agencies and organizations will be on hand to provide resources, information and guidance for veterans.

Newhouse says he hopes this year's event in Tri-Cities will see the turnout of last year's event in Yakima, with local veterans utilizing the resources available to them.

The veterans service fair will be this Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Columbia Basin College Gjerde Center.

WASHINGTON: It's barely pumpkin latte season and already signs are up advertising *flu* shots! One vaccine that's been off the market for a couple years is back this year. Two years ago the nasal spray vaccine was taken off the market because the Center for Disease Control said it was no longer effective for that particular flu season. For those who tend to get a little needle frantic, the CDC now says this year's nasal spray vaccine should be effective for this year's flu strain. I...More >>
