Selah School District Employees March For Fairness

Posted: Updated:

Dozens of classified employees from the Selah School District held protest signs outside the middle school this afternoon for what they're calling a March for Fairness.

Secretaries, paraeducators, custodians and bus drivers say they're fighting for a living wage.

Building secretaries have been working without a contract since August 1, 2016. Paraeducators, custodians and bus drivers have been working without a contract since September 1, 2016.

According to a statement from the group, "The Selah classified employees are underpaid compared to their counterparts in surrounding districts. They are the schools' First Responders! Their duties have expanded without consideration of the added time or the increased skill level necessary to perform these new tasks."

The Selah Office Professional Association and the Selah Educational Support Personnel Association have been negotiating with the Selah School District since June of 2016.
