8 people, 6 juveniles arrested after fights in Pasco

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, WA - Pasco Police officers spent about an hour on Tuesday afternoon, June 19, arresting teens and adults for a persistent series of fights in the area of Sylvester Park (5th/ Nixon), Lourdes ER (4th/ Sylvester), and Volunteer Park (4th/ Nixon). In all, eight people, mostly female, mostly juvenile, were arrested for a variety of crimes, and many others were questioned.

The fights started at about 4 p.m. Accounts vary, but Pasco Police say it appears to have started as a confrontation at a nearby store between women with previous grudges against each other. Some of the people involved are documented gang members and investigating officers believe that contributed to the issue. The two groups apparently agreed to meet at nearby Sylvester Park to “talk it out” but showed up with additional people and improvised weapons.

There was no allegation of knife or gun use, but evidence collected by officers included a sprocket tied to a sock and a padlock tied to a bandana, used as swinging impact weapons.

Officers arrived at Sylvester Park to find members of the two groups either bleeding, yelling, or running away. One injured participant required 22 stitches to her head.

Initial witness reports conflicted, and cooperation with police varied wildly. The scattered members of the original fight apparently called in reinforcements, and attempted to regroup and fight again near Lourdes ER, and again at Volunteer Park. Officers attempted to immediately squelch that violence. As arrests continued, the remaining group finally got quieter and dispersed. It took awhile and tied up a lot of officers.

A 23-year-old man from Pasco was booked into Franklin County Jail on an investigative hold for Possessing a Legend Drug and Criminal Mischief.

A 23-year-old woman from Pasco was booked into Franklin County Jail (after receiving medical treatment) for Criminal Mischief and Violation of Court Order and later released.

A 15-year-old man from Pasco was arrested for Riot and booked into Juvenile Detention.

Two 14-year-old women from Pasco, a 15-year-old woman from Pasco, a 16-year-old man from Pasco, and a 16-year-old woman from Pasco were all arrested for Criminal Mischief and booked into Juvenile Detention.
