Throwback Thursday: Allan Bros. Fruit family settles in Naches in 1900s

NACHES, WA - Cherries are the inspiration for today's Throwback Thursday!

It's the beginning of the harvest season and we got a history lesson of Allan Brothers Fruit in Naches. Earlier this week we visited the Allan Bros. warehouse, which is so big you can't miss it driving down Highway 12. That's the result of decades of hard work.

We were curious about the brothers' humble beginnings. The Allan family immigrated to the U.S. from Scotland and Europe before settling in the Naches Valley in the early 1900s.

In the attached video are pictures of the three generations of the Allan Bros. Fruit Company who've been growing apples and cherries since the 1920s.

It's been a family tradition that Allan Bros. passed down to family members who are passionate about the company. The third and current generation is made up of two cousins - Tom and Travis.

"You could look at that and go, 'why is it diminished?' But really what that is, is that does allow for the family that has other interests to go on and have those interests," said Miles Kohl, Allan Bros. CEO. "But for the ones that really have a passion for the business to really be a part of it and really engage it."

More than 100 years later, Allan Bros. is continuing to evolve. They started growing new fruit, venturing into growing wine grapes just four years ago.
