19-year-old dead after vehicle rollover near Prosser

PROSSER, WA - On Wednesday, June 27 at about 6:40 a.m., Washington State Patrol responded to a single vehicle fatal rollover 6 miles east of Prosser on westbound I-82.

19-year-old Enrique M. Rivas-Smith of Marysville was driving a black 2007 BMW X3 4-door westbound on I-82 near milepost 88 with a passenger, a 17-year-old juvenile of Everett. The vehicle left the road and rolled, and Rivas-Smith was ejected. The vehicle came to a rest on its top.

Rivas-Smith was declared dead at Kadlec Medical Center, and the juvenile was injured and taken to Prosser Memorial Hospital.

Neither Rivas-Smith nor the juvenile were wearing seat belts. 

It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor, and the cause is still under investigation.
