Upcoming DUII/HVE events in July

Posted: Updated:

PENDLETON, OR - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office will have several DUII/High Visibility Enforcement grant events during the month of July:

Independence Day event – July 3rd and 4th;

Pendleton Whisky Music Fest – July 13th and 14th

Pendleton Bike Week – July 17th thru July 22nd.

During these events, the Sheriff’s Office will have additional deputies patrolling the roadways looking for impaired and/or distracted drivers.

In 2016, 188 people were killed in crashes involving at least one driver or motorcycle operator with a blood alcohol concentration of .08% or higher. This was a 28% increase from 2015. Nearly half of those who died were in a vehicle with at least one driver with a blood alcohol concentration of .15% or higher – almost twice the legal limit. These statistics do not include persons driving under the influence of drugs, or a combination of drugs and alcohol.

The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office invites people to enjoy these events, but to do so responsibly. UCSO Deputies are committed to the safety of our citizens. They will continue to seek out distracted or impaired drivers in order to prevent injuries and deaths on our highways. The deputies of the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office are trained to recognize the signs of persons who are not only impaired by alcohol, but also by legal and illegal drugs, including prescriptions.

These events are funded through a grant from the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association.

Please continue to report suspected drunk drivers by calling 541-966-3651, or 911 if it appears to be an emergency.
