Operation Dry Water this weekend

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND: This weekend deputies are putting an emphasis on drinking and boating as part of a nation-wide campaign called 'Operation Dry Water.'

Deputies are in the middle of their 'Operation Dry Water' campaign, reminding you to never operate a boat if you've been drinking.

They're hoping this can minimize the number of accidents caused by boating under the influence...

So far today, Brett Hansen with the Benton County Sheriff's department says they've seen far less issues with boating and drinking so far compared to this time last year.

"We haven't had any yet, and we hope to keep it that way. We are looking for impaired boaters or negligent boaters. We're trying to influence the boating under the influence laws to keep our water ways safe," said Brett Hansen.

Brett also says they want people to have a good time while out on the water this weekend. It's not against the law to drink while you're on a boat, but to make sure everyone has a sober driver while out on the water.
