Safe Kids Benton-Franklin offers free life jacket loan program

Posted: Updated:

TRI-CITIES, WA - With local residents looking for ways to cool off this summer, Safe Kids Benton-Franklin is reminding the community that life jackets can be borrowed for free from loaner boards and loan stations in Benton and Franklin Counties.

"Anyone who plans to be near or in the water should wear a life jacket," said Kathleen Clary-Cooke, Coordinator for Safe Kids Benton-Franklin. "Many of our drownings happen when people don't realize how fast and cold the rivers are, even when the weather is hot."

Life jackets can be borrowed from Richland Parks & Recreation, Benton County Fire District #4 in West Richland, and West Benton Fire & Rescue in Prosser.

Life jacket loan boards are set up and stocked at Hood Park, Charbonneau Park, Leslie Groves Park, Howard Amon Park, Levey Park, Windust Park, Fishhook Park, Schlagel Park, and Two Rivers Park.

For more information, call Safe Kids Benton-Franklin at 509-460-4214.
