Yakima Central Plaza to be on November ballot

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA - For those in Yakima who are either for or against the Central Plaza, the City is now leaving it up to residents on whether the project happens or not.

During Tuesday's City Council meeting, members decided to place the Yakima Central Plaza project on the November General Election ballot.

One of the council members says they decided to do this because of a potential lawsuit the City could have faced if they didn't, which would come from a parking group that is against the project. The group gave the City the option of facing a lawsuit or putting the project up for the public to vote.

Council members agreed that having the project on the November ballot will provide direction and input, especially since the project has been so controversial.

The main issue with the plaza has been losing some parking space. Council members say if the plaza is built where it's planned, they'll be looking at replacing the parking and creating a new lot, possibly by the police station.
