Man in Winco shooting booked on attempted murder charges

RICHLAND, WA - Some customers may still be nervous about entering the Richland Winco, after police say 45-year-old Matthew McQuin shot 33-year-old Jenna Kline in the head. 

Thursday, McQuin appeared in court for arraignment, however he did not enter a plea because the judge is looking into evaluating him for possible insanity.

According to court documents, he told the officers "people were out to get him" and also said "she's in on it."

Police say the woman, Kline, doesn't know the man.

As far as Kline's condition; she is okay, but still has a couple more surgeries ahead of her.

RICHLAND, WA - 45-year-old Matthew D. McQuin of Umatilla, OR has been booked into the Benton County Jail on a charge of Attempted First Degree Murder. This is a result of the shooting that occurred at Winco, 101 George Washington Way at 7:40 p.m. on Monday.

The victim, a 33-year-old woman and a Richland resident has been released from the hospital. She had no contact with the suspect before being shot inside the store.

The suspect’s home in Oregon has been checked and no other people appear to have been victims of violence.

The Richland Police Department is investigating possible mental health issues that McQuin may have experienced in the past.

A large number of witnesses were present at the scene of the shooting. If anyone has information that has not been reported to the police they are asked to call Sgt. Drew Florence at 509-942-7654.



RICHLAND, WA - We have confirmed 45-year-old Matthew McQuin has been booked in connection to Monday night's shooting at the Winco in Richland.

He is booked into the Benton County Jail on Attempted Murder 1 charges, with no bond.

Richland Police tell NBC Right Now they do not have an update on the victims condition as of Tuesday morning. Officers cleared the scene of the shooting at 3 a.m. Tuesday.



RICHLAND, WA - A man from Umatilla is in custody after a shooting at the Winco in Richland Monday night.

Police were called out around 7:30 p.m to a possible active shooting situation.

When they arrived they found one woman with a gunshot wound. Paramedics transported her to a local hospital.

Richland Police Captain Mike Cobb says the 45-year-old male suspect surrendered to police inside the store.

Benton County Jail documents show Matthew McQuin has been booked for Attempted Murder 1. The Bomb Squad also swept through a car parked near the entrance they believe was McQuin's as standard protocol.
