Girl Up, with the U.S. Department of State Office of Global Partnerships, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation, hosts two-week long camp where girls from four countries will have a hands-on opportunity to learn about science, technology, engineering, arts and design, and math.

TBILISI, Ga., Aug. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Building upon the success of WiSci (Women in Science) Girls STEAM Camps held in Namibia (2018), Malawi (2017), Peru (2016), and Rwanda (2015), Girl Up is readying for this year's WiSci Girls STEAM Camp in Tbilisi, Georgia. The camp will take place August 12-25 and will bring together 100 students from Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States. The camp is the result of a public-private partnership designed to expand science, technology, engineering, arts and design, and mathematics (STEAM) exposure and opportunities for adolescent girls.

Led by technology professionals, engineers, and scientists from Intel, Google, Microsoft, American Society for Microbiology, WiSci Georgia will provide campers with curriculum in coding and app development, engineering and robotics, micro- and molecular biology, and sustainable development. The girls will have the opportunity to present ideas that use the skills and tools they gain in the classroom to address a social or development challenge in their communities and the world. The camp will also provide campers with leadership and communication skills, teamwork opportunities, cultural exchange, educational excursions, mentorship, and professional development and networks extending beyond the camp to continue participants' engagement in STEAM fields.

WiSci Georgia is hosted by WiSci Founding Partners, the U.S. Department of State, Girl Up, and the Intel Corporation, in partnership with the Millennium Challenge Corporation and Google. Additional programmatic support is provided by the American Society for Microbiology and Microsoft. The WiSci Girls STEAM camp is part of the U.S. government's efforts to empower adolescent girls and promote the importance of innovation, technology, science leadership, and STEAM training, in addition to the importance of girls' education.
