Red Flag Warning from 2 PM Friday to 11 PM Wednesday

BENTON COUNTY, WA - The Benton County Fire Marshal has announced a Red Flag Warning, which means all burning is prohibited, all current fires must be immediately extinguished, including permitted emergency ag-burning. 

The Red Flag Program is a means by which the National Weather Service informs the fire management agencies of the onset or possibility of Red Flag events, that is, critical weather and fuel conditions that could lead to an extensive wildfire occurrence, or extreme fire behavior. Red Flag events normally require the combination of HIGH TO EXTREME fire dangers and critical weather conditions. These weather conditions include, but are not limited to:

a. Significant increase in surface winds (sustained winds of 15 mph with stronger gusts possible.)

b. A dry thunderstorm outbreaks

c. Significant increase in temperature.

d. Significant decrease in relative humidity

e. First episode of thunderstorms after a hot and dry period.

  1. A Haines Index of 6

g. Any combination of weather and fuel moistures conditions that could cause extensive wildfire occurrences.”

RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 11 PM
PDT THIS EVENING: One more day of hot, dry and unstable conditions as
a ridge of high pressure begins to shift east head of an upper
level low approaching the coast this afternoon. Breezy to locally
windy conditions are expected through and downwind of the Cascades
this afternoon through Saturday as the marine layer deepens on the
west side. Temperatures drop to near normals for Saturday/Sunday
with increasingly hot and dry conditions by early next week.
