Benton County First District #1 dispatched for Bofer Canyon Fire

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK: Benton County Fire District #1 were dispatched around 9:30 a.m this morning to a fire burning off  of I-82 and Bofer Canyon Rd.

Benton County Fire District #1 say the fire jumped the fire line around 9:30 a.m this morning, calling for over 25 units from all over the region to respond.

As of 10:33 a.m this morning 2 strike teams were ordered to put the dozer line down and to do burnout operations.

As of 12:08 p.m, Firefighters tell us the fire has burned about 500 acres and is 75 percent contained.

The fire is burning near the hillside and no homes are threatened, however, some radio towers and power poles are threatened.

If you are driving near I-82, firefighters say a large plume of smoke is still filling the sky, however, they have it under control and back burn operations are in place to contain the fie.

We will continue to update you on the cause of the fire as we learn more.
