Doctors practice surgery in a laboratory on wheels

RICHLAND, WA - Today at the Sign Conference Doctors from Africa, Asia and the Middle East have come together right here in Richland to learn about new techniques and skills in the medical field.

"You know, practicing on a live human... it's the last thing you want to learn on," said Doctor Richard Anthony, Ph.D President of the Surgical Training Institute.

Over 150 doctors from around the world are attending Sign Fracture Care International to gain hands on experience with real cadavers. Most of the doctors are from third-world countries who don't get a chance to do this.

"Were happy to support this kind of training opportunity which they don't get in their countries, because unlike in the united states they don't have as much access to humans anatomical specimens to do these type of bio skills projects," Dr. Anthony said.

Sign Fracture International has brought its advanced technology and innovative training systems, all over the world, some even on wheels.

"We do all the US states.. and any country we can drive to," said Dr. Anthony .

Dr. Anthony is one of the first to create a mobile operating room that just hooks on the back of a truck and drives to the next seminar. Most of the time, doctors don't have time to leave their practice to help teach others so this is a great opportunity for the trainers to learn from the best.

"It's helpful to them to have somebody who has written about this, published about this, written books about this to help get answers to their questions and adjustments to their techniques to take it back home to better treat their patrons," said Doctor Marc Swiontkowsk, Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon.

Through out the three day conference ankle, leg, hip and shoulder surgeries will be practiced and critiqued to perfect the skills for when they travel back home.

Learning new information to help others is the goal of the Sign Conference and in doing so they are saving hundreds of thousands of lives. And even just last fall Doctor Lewis Zirkle received a medal from the department of defense for his incredible work.
