Health district hosts youth suicide prevention summit

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA - Twelve young people have died by suicide in Benton and Franklin Counties since the beginning of 2017. Next week, Benton-Franklin Health District and the Youth Suicide Prevention Coalition will host a summit for local organizations, schools, and medical personnel involved in suicide prevention efforts.

The event will focus on reviewing current resources and programs, identifying gaps in the community, and creating a plan to expand successful strategies to prevent suicide deaths. The summit is the result of State Senator Sharon Brown's advocacy to the state legislature to identify resources to maintain and expand youth suicide prevention efforts in Benton and Franklin Counties.

The summit will take place on Tuesday, September 18 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the United Way in Kennewick. For more information or to register, call (509) 460-4275.
