UCSO investigates alleged threat to Milton-Freewater school

MILTON-FREEWATER, OR - On Thursday evening, September 13, Umatilla County Sheriff deputies were investigating an assault complaint in the Milton-Freewater area involving high school-aged boys.

While deputies were investigating, it was brought to their attention that the assault suspect also allegedly made a threat to commit a shooting at the high school in Milton-Freewater.

Deputies notified the Milton-Freewater School District, who in the interest of safety, decided to close schools on Friday, September 14 and took all necessary precautions while deputies investigated.

Friday morning, UCSO found the juvenile suspect and his guardians. The juvenile denied that he made any threatening statements towards the school or anywhere else, and had no intention to shooting anyone. He also did not have access to firearms.

After the assault investigation and threat assessment, deputies determined there was enough evidence to arrest the suspect for Assault in the Forth Degree and Disorderly Conduct. UCSO lodged the suspect at the Juvenile Detention Center in Walla Walla on those charges.

UCSO thanks to the Milton-Freewater School District and Milton-Freewater PD for their assistance. They say they take these incidents seriously and are committed to the safety of our schools and citizens.
