Energy Northwest employee to receive agency lifesaving award

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, WA – Cathey Anderson, Energy Northwest occupational health supervisor and registered nurse, will receive an agency lifesaving award Monday, September 17, at 9 a.m. during an all-employee meeting at Columbia Generating Station.

While flying to Yakima August 5 from Laughlin, Nevada, Anderson noticed a male passenger was having a seizure following indications of disorientation. She immediately left her seat and attended to the passenger during the seizure, and later, while providing direction to another nurse on board, helped provide first aid for a cut the passenger sustained. Anderson assessed the passenger’s condition for the crew, and provided recommendations for on-scene medical assistance upon arrival.

Using oxygen to assist his breathing, the passenger remained under Anderson’s care throughout the remainder of the flight.

“We ask our employees to watch out for each other, and Cathey certainly demonstrated that behavior in this situation,” said CEO Brad Sawatzke. “Her quick action to administer medical treatment may have averted a tragedy.”
