Two arrested and several other suspects still at large from burglary in Toppenish

Posted: Updated:

TOPPENISH, WA- Yakima County Sheriff's Deputies are still searching for suspects who broke into a home on Saturday morning.

Around 10:30 a.m. the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a burglary in progress in the 1200 block of East McDonald Road, just outside the City of Toppenish. The home owner had interrupted the suspect(s) and observed them flee out his home into an agricultural area. A Yakima County Sheriff’s Office Deputy arrived within minutes of the incident and immediately set up a perimeter with assistance from surrounding jurisdictions on the area that the suspect(s) had fled into. K-9 Zuza and her handler deployed along with a drone to assist in the search.

K-9 Zuza tracked the fleeing suspect(s) and located two suspects concealed in a nearby field. The two suspects refused to comply with verbal commands and K-9 Zuza was utilized to apprehend one of the suspects, a 22-year-old male from the Wapato area. The second suspect, a 37-year-old female from the Wapato area, surrendered after K-9 Zuza was deployed. Both suspects were taken into custody and the search continued for the remaining suspect(s).

The other suspect(s) were not located in the area at this point and are still at large. The two located suspects were booked into the Yakima County Jail for Resisting Arrest and Residential Burglary charges.

The quick response of all agencies involved played a large part in the successful apprehension of two of the suspects. The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the agencies that assisted: Yakama Nation PD, Toppenish PD, Wapato PD and Zillah PD.

Please contact the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office (509-574-2500) or Crimes Stoppers at (800) 248-9980/www.crimestoppersyakco.org if you have any information related to this investigation.
