Selah Aquatic Center construction begins

Posted: Updated:

SELAH, WA- The brand new Selah Aquatic Center has broken ground and could be opening as soon as Summer 2019. The new pool will be replacing the Selah Dolphins pool at Wixson Park which had been in Selah for many years. The new facility will feature a zero entry pool, a lazy river, a new bathhouse, and space for competitive swimming.  $6.2 million from a November 2015 bond that passed in support of building the pool will be used for construction of it. "They have enough money to build the facility, what we don't have is operational funding. This requires both a bond and a levy," says Selah Park and Recreation Service Area chairperson Kelliann Ergeson.

In order to operate and open the pool, a levy must be passed to help with the maintenance and operation budget. Voters can anticipate to see a new levy measure in 2019. SPRSA hopes to be able to fundraise at least $200,000-$300,000 that would help operate and maintain the pool for at least 6 years. Construction of the pool should be done by May 2019, and if enough money is raised the pool could open as early as early Summer 2019.
