Graffiti problem in Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash. -

YAKIMA, WA - If you live in Yakima you know there has been a graffiti problem for many years.

While it might not be possible to stop some people from graffitiing, the office of neighborhood development services has a system in place to help cover any existing graffiti.

People can go onto their website "yak back" and fill out a complaint.

"Any citizen can file a complaint with the city, that system works really great with us because it gives the person that's complaining about it, the location the graffiti is on and then they're emailed to us and we know to go take care of it. But on the other hand our guys know which ones we have permission to clean," said Orville Otto, senior supervisor at neighborhood development services.

The team does need permission from property owners to paint over any graffiti.

Businesses are even able to buy their own paint and have them come to cover the damage.

Since the beginning of the year, they've used more than 400 gallons of paint.
