EVERETT, Wash. -

Ice skating is returning to the Evergreen State.

Next week Skate America hosted by U.S Figure Skating will call Everett home.

The skating event will bring together the top 60 athletes from 12 nations. These athletes are the best in their disciplines.

The event will feature men’s and women's singles, ice dance, and pairs.

Skaters competing at this event earn points to qualify for the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. This year the final will be in Vancouver, Canada.

Post the 2018 Winter PyeongChang Olympics the Team USA side of the event is looking a lot different than in years past.

With new names and a few old faces, this next Olympic cycle is shaping up to bring the sport new life and new names.

Team USA Update-

This year on the Team USA side we will see Bradie Tennell who erupted on the scene at last years Skate America in Lake Placid with her Cinderella program, Tennell then went onto compete at nationals placing first and then moving on to the Olympics winning a bronze in the team event.

A new face to watch is Starr Andrews. Andrews who competed last year at her first nationals and actually stopped in Spokane at sectionals on her way to nationals will be competing. She’s someone not only to watch now but down the road, her chances for the next Olympics are high.

On the men’s side, we will see Nathan Chen A.K.A The Quad King. Chen had a tough first Olympics struggling in the short but fighting hard in the long to earn a fifth-place finish. Chen is currently a student at Yale.

Another new name to watch is Jimmy Ma, this is his first Skate America, Ma gained attention last year at nationals when he skated to “Turn Down for What.”

On the pairs side, we see the return of the husband-wife combo Alexa Scimeca-Knierim and Chris Knierim the pair are the current national champions in this discipline.

On the Ice Dance side with the Shuibutani’s sitting this season out we see Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue who finished fourth at the Olympics and Karina Manta and Joe Johnson coming in with some new life. This will be Manta and Johnsons first Skate America.
