Yakima Greenway closes for levee repair

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA- A small portion of the Yakima Greenway will be temporarily closed throughout October and November for levee repairs. Construction crews are hoping to repair damage from Spring 2017 flooding.

About 1000 feet of the path will be closed near Berglund Lake and the Twin Bridges for at least 3 weeks.

"We're coming upon flood season so it's important to have it restored to protect during higher flows," says project engineer Troy Havens.

Levee rehab includes hauling, placing, and reconfiguring rocks along levee slopes above and below water levels.

Crews ask anyone walking on the path to follow construction signs and avoid going near the construction zone. Signs have been places along the path to prevent people from walking.
