39-year-old man fatally hit by car in Ellensburg

KITTITAS COUNTY, WA - A 39-year-old Ellensburg man is dead after being struck by a car Sunday night.

On Sunday, October 28 at about 11:40 p.m., Ellensburg resident James McCurdy was struck by a vehicle while walking on University Way near the intersection of Reecer Creek Road.

39-year-old James McCurdy was intoxicated and walking eastbound on University Way when he was struck by a passenger car. McCurdy was last seen inside of the Wild Goose Casino where he had been refused service due to intoxication. Ellensburg Police officers were first on scene and started CPR.  Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue arrived and began life-saving measures, but they were unsuccessful. 

The driver of the passenger car was 19-year-old Central Washington University student, Ricardo Abarca. Abarca was assessed by law enforcement and it was determined he showed no signs of impairment. 

The Washington State Patrol is assisting the Sheriff's Office with the investigation.
