A-1 Taxi services comes to a close

Posted: Updated:

TRI-CITIES: After 38 years in business and 16 years of service to Ben-Franklin transit, the Tri-Cities A-1 taxi services announces that it will no longer be doing business.

A-1 taxi service did not release why exactly they are suspending their services but did release this statement: "Due to unforeseen circumstances A-1 will be closing and discontinuing all services." Their closing has left more than 150 people who use their service through Ben-Franklin transit without their regular ride sharing service...

The A-1 company provides night-time, Sunday and taxi feeder services to Ben-Franklin transit, but those services are now suspended.

We reached out to a Ben-Franklin transit representative to see if she has the reason behind the sudden halt. She says no, but this will surely leave gaps in their transit program, especially for those who use the taxi service to get home after night shift, or kids trying to get to school early.

"It's going to be a challenge for a little bit, but there are some things that we are looking into and we are trying to understand the manifest. Who all is on their and for what so that, and what have you so that we can try to match people up with other programs that we have," said Ali Madison, Ben-Franklin Marketing and Communications Director.

Ali Madison also says once she heard the news.. employees at Ben-Franklin transit immediately started thinking about who would be affected by this. This morning those customers were on their own as far as getting a ride goes.

"We're looking at all possible alternatives because our commitment to this community is to keep everyone mobile, to the furthest extent that we can. We are just going to stay focused on that," said Ali Madison.

Moving forward other resources through Ben-Franklin transit are available like van pool. In addition to customers being out rides, 60 employees who previously worked for A-1 are now without a job.

Fortunately there are other ride sharing and taxi services available, like Uber and Lyft. If you would like to find out what else Ben-Franklin offers, then you can head over to their website.
