Dave Villwock pilots Miss Budweiser to a win in its final visit.

Dave Willock and Miss Bud made the most of its final appearance at the Columbia Cup, winning three heats and the finals. It was to be a showdown between Miss Bud and the U-3 Vacationville.com piston-powered boat driven by Mitch Evans. Evans won each of his heats as well and fans were looking forward to the head-to-head racing.

But it was not to be. Evans and Miss Llumar driven by J.W. Myers got tangled up in the corner and did some damage to the Llumar, which spun out and was unable to finish. Evans was penalized a lap and finished in fourth.

"It was just some real tight racing," according to Mitch Evans; "Dave obviously led us into the corner a little... we all started to make the turn."

"I knew it was going to be tight, but I felt like there was enough room for all of us to get in there" Evans said. "J-Dub (J.W. Myers) was really close to me and ended up just richocheting off the sponson."

J.W. Myers said, "Obviously something happened some way. The video will tell. But the end result is the Llumar's not in victory lane like last year."

The bump allowed Miss Bud to bring home a relatively easy victory. Dave Villwock took time to thank the Tri-Cities fans in his remarks after the victory, even popping the hood on the T-5 hull of the U-1 to wave to the fans on the Pasco side of the river.

"I was thinking of Bernie," he said.
