Real Hero: Dylan DeBlasio
February 26th 2005 is a day the DeBlasio's will never forget.
"I picked Dylan up from preschool & we were going to grab some food from a fast food restaurant, “said Mr. DeBlasio
An insulin dependent diabetic Deblasio was the daily drive home with his 5-year old-son Dylan when he began going into insulin shock.
"I just happened to be on the phone with my wife- and gave the phone to Dylan"
Deblasio handed Dylan the phone, that's when this little guy stepped up to the plate.
Deblasio had eaten some candy in the car, to hold him over before lunch, but not enough to get his insulin levels to where they needed to be.
Dylan took over the 9-1-1 call that afternoon- and saved his dad's life.
“If he wouldn't have made that call, things would have ended up a lot worse than they did,” says Dylan’s dad.
Since that day Dylan is more aware of how important it is to make sure his Dad’s insulin levels are healthy. Deblasio now wears an insulin pump to prevent a situation like February 26th from ever happening again.
