It was a little over a year ago when James and Sally Reed almost lost their 4-year-old. He may be a golden retriever/spaniel mix, but Hank is just like a child to the couple. As they walked along the shores of the Snake River in hood park hank almost fell victim to a dog's innate desire to chase anything that moves. In this case, ducks.
Hank had reached the edge of the frozen river and fallen in unable to get out. Sally had gone to get help and a young Sheriff's Deputy named Richard Schram responded. He drove up highway 12 from Burbank knowing time was of the essence.
He extended a ladder over the ice to where Hank was – and saved his life. He says it's all in a day's work. But the reeds know it was much more than that.
