RICHLAND, Wash. - The Richland Bombers are headed to state, and senior pitcher Stacey Ellingsworth is headed straight for the record books. She owns nearly every school pitching record at Richland High. This season, the Utah State signee is 22-2, with a 0.14 ERA and has struck out 275 of the 538 batters she's faced. Opponents are hitting just .120 against her.
"I try and get in their heads out there," Ellingsworth said. "I know I have lots of different pitches I can use to get them out. It's a game up there between me and the batter."
The team practiced Tuesday prior to Friday's State Tournament game in Tacoma, and Ellingsworth was definitely on top of her game. In a rare move, several Richland baseball players challenged her at the plate, and all walked away with their heads down. Sports Anchor Scott Reister fared no better with the three swings he had against the pitching phenom. The must-see video clip is attached.
