State Republicans take Platform on Illegal Immigrant's Children
YAKIMA, Wash. - Washington State Republicans say children should not become United States citizens if their parents are in the country illegally.
The platform was taken this weekend at the party's state convention in Yakima. The 14th Amendment to the Constitution says anyone born in the U.S. automatically becomes a citizen.
However, supporters of the measure say illegal aliens are costing hospitals too much money when giving birth to their children.
One pasco man said he supports legislation bringing families together. He said children are going to lose the right because their parents are in the county illegally or are immigrants. If they're born here they should have the right to stay here he said in Spanish.
State republicans also support a position forcing all illegal workers in Washington to leave the United States and apply for a worker's visa if they wish to re-enter the country.
