UMATILLA, Oregon - A death investigation is in full swing as the Umatilla County Sheriff's Department is trying to piece together how a young teenage boy died.
The teen died in the Umatilla River on Monday afternoon. He was in the river at a popular fishing area called China Man's Hole just outside of Umatilla city limits. Sheriffs said he was dead when emergency crews arrived at the scene.
A source tells KNDU the boy broke his neck while he was in the river with a group of friends. He also said the boy is around 13 or 14 years old and has a twin brother.
Sheriffs are waiting for the boy's family to be notified before releasing his name.
Umatilla County Sheriffs cleared the scene of the accident and plan on releasing more information on the death Tuesday.
