Kennewick youngster shooting for the Open

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Kennewick's Kevin Tucker grew up idolizing Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.  If things go well next week, he may have a chance to beat them.

The Kennewick High senior has made it to the U. S. Open Sectional Qualifying Tourney to be held Monday in Eugene.  25 golfers will be there, most of them pros. The top two or three, depending on the scores, will qualify to play in the actual U. S. Open, which is in two weeks in New York.

In Eugene, each golfer will get two rounds, and will probably need to get in the sixites each time.  If Tucker defies the odds and continues his dream run to the Open, he'll play as an amateur and will be ineligible for cash prizes.  He'll attend WSU next year.
