Neighbors Stunned by Shooting of Pregnant Teen

YAKIMA, Wa -  Neighbors say they feared for their own safety and did not want to risk getting a look at the suspects after a shooting at an apartment complex on the 200 block of Fair Ave.

A pregnant 17-year-old girl was shot in the shoulder while watching television, but police say she is fine.   Neighbors say they heard rival gang members fire five shots through the apartment window.

Fileberto Perez Castillo and his family live in the apartment next door to where the shooting took place.  "I came last night at about 12 at night. I just came to my door, come to my kitchen last night. I hear about five times shooting," he says.

Fileberto has four children.  They all sleep in the living room, just a few feet away from the front door and where the shooters were.  "I had to put my babies in the back room right away," he says.

Fileberto called 9-1-1 when he heard the shots, but he says there wasn't enough time to try and get a look at the shooters. "I had to get down on the ground and lay down because they're shooting, so I can't open the windows," Fileberto says.

The people who live in the apartment where the shooting happened did not want to go on camera, but they confirmed what police have told KNDO, that pregnant 17-year-old girl who was shot is going to be okay.

Fileberto says he never had any problems with his neighbors, but the apartment complex says there was one documented complaint about gang activity at the apartment last month. "I just want to protect my family, that's all I can say," Filiberto says.

The apartment complex now says they plan to evict the people who live at the apartment where the shooting happened because police say the shooting was gang related.
