New Jobs For Former Welch's Plant Workers

KENNEWICK, Wash. - The former Welch's Plant has a new owner. And people involved in making the deal, believe it will create up to 100 new jobs for former Welch's employees.

The plant shut down nearly 5 months ago. Over 150 people lost their jobs and were stuck in town without a way to pay the bills.

Little did they know the fact they didn't leave was an instrumental part in making the deal.

J. Lieb foods purchased the plant and wanted people with prior experience bottling things like drinks, dressings, and salads, and the company didn't want to look very far.

"One of the attractive features of this plant was that there was an available workforce that had not scattered or for the most part not found other jobs," said Carl Adrian, TRIDEC.

For people interested in getting a job when the plant opens, Adrian recommends they register at Worksource.

At this point it's too early to know all the steps needed to ensure they get hired.

Adrian anticipates the plant may open in mid August.
