Dawg Day Afternoon at Yakima Country Club
YAKIMA, Wash. - University of Washington head football coach Ty Willingham and Ike grad and All-American golfer Paige Mackenzie visited the Yakima Country Club on Monday. The two were in town for the 35th annual University of Washington Coaches Tour, presented by the UW Alumni Association and the Department of Athletics.
Before hitting the links, Willingham talked about turning around the Huskies football team around this fall.
"I'm looking forward to improving our football," says Willingham, "I think we can do that. I think there's some signs our team is coming alive in some regards. We still have to recognize we have a lot of work to do, but I'm excited about the group we're doing it with"
Willingham enters his second season as Washington's head coach. The Huskies finished 2005 with a 2-9 record (1-7 in the Pac-10).
Paige Mackenzie returned to her old stomping grounds. The Eisenhower graduate is currently the top ranked amateur female golfer in the nation. She recently won the Colorado Open. Now Mackenzie turns her attention to next week's US Open at the Newport Country Club in Newport, RI.
"I came off the win at Colorado Open. I feel really good about it. I rolled the ball really well down there which has been kind of a missing link during the college season and I feel really good about it. We'll see what happens"
Later this summer Mackenzie will represent the USA at the Curtis Cup, held July 29-30 at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore.
