KENNEWICK, Wash. - The summer wildfire forecast is out and officials expect to be challenged again this year by brush and wildfires.
Benton County Emergency services met with the media June 21 to share that forecast from the National Weather Service.
Last year crews battled blazes like the "School Fire" near Pomeroy throughout the season.
That fire alone burned close to 52 thousand acres.
Recent rains won't change the fire forecast; in fact, they help brush grass grow and that growth can increase the spread of fires when the brush grass dries out.
