YAKIMA, Wash. - Local fire departments are asking for your help. It's all part of "Fire Fighter Safety Month."
Fire departments in Yakima, across the United States and in Canada will respond to emergency calls as normal, but between calls they will take time to conduct fire safety training and drills.
The focus this year is on emergency vehicle safety.
"One of the things the public can do is to really observe safety rules," said Abel Castilleja, chief with the Yakima Fire Department. "When you see a fire or emergency vehicle approaching, pull to the right. If you don't know what else to do just stop."
Last year, 106 firefighters died in the line of duty and 26 of those deaths involved emergency vehicle accidents.
