Hydro Museum Director Gets His Turn in the Driver's Seat
The man who runs the Seattle Hydroplane Museum will get his chance to race an unlimited hydroplane this year.
He's hoping to get in some laps in the U-2.25 Superior Racing boat in Evansville and at the Gold Cup in Detroit.
Williams is kind of a legend in his own right. He's driven any number of vintage hydros, but may be best known for his trun at the stunt driver for the movie Madison about Madison, Indiana's "Miss Madison." Williams piloted the boat during the movie's race scenes.
He's had plenty of unofficial turns in the cockpit of unlimiteds, but he yet to race competitively in an official capacity. Williams will try to get enough qualifying laps and hopes to be able to race at least one heat by the time the hydros hit Detroit.
Dr. Ken Muscatel will drive the U-2.25 when Williams isn't in the cockpit, or until Williams gets enough qualifying laps.
