City looks into replacing several waterlines

YAKIMA, Wash. - The City of Yakima has applied for an Environmental Review to replace several waterlines.

According to the Yakima Water and Irrigation Division, there are several old waterlines near Pecks Canyon Road and Powerhouse Road that need to be replaced.

The waterlines were put in the ground in the early 1920's and if they were to break, it would cause a lot of damage, said David brown, manager with the Irrigation and Water District.

"There's 24 million gallons in storage up there that those pipes feed and if we should have a major break, all that water is coming down the hill," said Brown. "We can't have that kind of thing happen."

If approved, the project will take about four months to complete.
