Representative Clements Will Not Seek Reelection

YAKIMA, Wash. - Republican State Representative Jim Clements announced Friday that he will not seek re-election this fall.

The announcement leaves an open seat on the ballot this fall in the 13th legislative district.

Yakima City Councilman and Democrat Ron Bonlender tells KNDO that he will now run for that open seat. He had previously said he would run for one of the two seats in the 13th district, but he had not decided which one until today.

Clements says it is time for younger people in the community to assume leadership roles and he would like to pursue other opportunities.

"I felt like allowing new people to get involved is sign a sign of strength rather than me trying to hold on to something forever and ever," Clements said.

The other representative from the 13th district, Mary Skinner, has been undergoing cancer treatment but is still expected to run for re-election this fall.
