BENTON COUNTY, Wash. - The investigation into why a man died in his Benton County home was in full swing Monday night.
At around four o'clock Monday afternoon, a mail carrier flagged down a Benton County Sheriff's Deputy wanting a welfare check for a man living in the home on the corder of 27th Avenue and Myrtle Street. The mail carrier said the man had not picked up his mail in days.
When deputies entered the home, they found a dead man possibly in his 50's. Sheriffs do not know how long the man had been inside, but there was a decaying smell coming from the home.
On Monday night, the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab was on it's way from Spokane to start collecting possible evidence at the scene of the home. The lab will work with detectives who are also trying piece the death together.
Deputy Joe Lusignan says they'll do a thorough investigation of the interior of the house and hope that will provide some leads.
Sheriffs did not move the body on Monday night. They said the coroner will have an autopsy done to determine the cause of death.
