The big boats head this weekend to Valleyfield, Quebec and hydro fans will see a different kind of racing.
Only two boats on the course at one time. One boat on the front side of the one-mile course and a second boat on the back side. You're running less against other boats than you are against the clock.
Jean Theoret, U-37 driver and hometown favorite in Valleyfield, is most familiar with the course. "You will not have much distance to yourself, " Theoret said. "Guys who are really good starters have an advantage."
"You better have a good run on the thing," said U-3 driver Jimmy King, who's also familiar with Valleyfield. "You can get a better run on the one side, have some room to adjust." The back side of the one mile course is tight; the front side's a little longer.
"You can go deep on the original (longer) course," said Theoret. On the front side, he said, "you will not have much distance to time yourself."
