U-21 Freedom Racing Repaired and Headed to Valleyfield

Of the ten boats that entered the Indiana Governor's Cup, the U-21 was one of seven that were eliminated from the competition as a result of damage.

On the U-21 test run Sunday morning, the belt that drives the oil pump for the gearbox broke, causing the components to overheat. The crew noted it was fortunate the U21 didn't catch on fire.

Kevin Aylesworth logged six laps toward officially qualifying as an Unlimited driver.  "The good news is the boat had a lot of power left in it at 120 and 130 mph, and the damaged gearbox has been fixed for next weekend," Aylesworth said.

The team is on its way to the Regates de Valleyfield outside of Montreal, Quebec for the third stop on the national tour.

Johnson said while it's frustrating to have encountered so many obstacles during the first two races of their professional career, every weekend on the water is an opportunity to learn. "This team is perseverant and motivated," Johnson said. "Patience will be a virtue as we get Kevin comfortable with the major changes we made to the boat this winter, and as he communicates with us how to improve the set-up of the boat for optimal performance.
