New Chickenpox Vaccine Requirements for school age children

OLYMPIA, Wash.- New chickenpox requirements went into affect July 1st, and if you have young kids at home, here's what you need to know:

  • The new rule applies to kids entering kindergarten and sixth grade
  • They must get the chickenpox vaccine or document they've had the disease
  • This also applies to children 19 months to kindergarten age who attend child care or preschool

Complications from chickenpox can lead to:

  •  Infections
  • Pneumonia
  • Brain swelling
