The U-1 Miss Elam crashed in turn two during qualifying and testing Friday afternoon in Valleyfield. Driver Dave Villwock reportedly lost a skid fin then had to take evasive action to miss a patrol boat.  The boat then ended up on the rocks, tearing apart the bottom of the hull.

Villwock immediately opened the cockpit and walked into the rescue boat.

The incident occured on the tightest turn on the course.  A turning radius of approximately 400 feet has created some scary moments for many boats and drivers throughout the first day of action.  Some of the boats even had to go outside the course markers after taking the turn.

U-1 is headed home to Seattle for repairs.  Back-up hull will be used in Detroit.  Hope to have boat repaired by Tri-Cities.
