Motorcycle fatalities in Yakima are down

YAKIMA, Wash. - According to the Washington State patrol the number of motorcycle fatalities are down in Yakima.

Last year there was a total of three motorcycle fatalities and this year there has only been one, said Ed McAvoy, sergeant with the State Patrol.

The number of motorcycle fatalities is also on the decline across the state.

"Statewide there have only been 17 this year to date for 2006," said McAvoy.  "Last year at this time there were 22."

McAvoy believes there are a number of reasons why the number is down.

"More and more folks are getting endorsements, they are taking the traffic safety courses and they're not drinking and driving," he said.
