Little Leaguers Show Big Heart, Get to State Tourney

YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima National West All-Star team completed a remarkable run to reach the State 9-10 Little League Tournament in Walla Walla.

Yakima West lost its first game 18-2 to Richland National. That sent the squad into the loser's bracket. From there on out, every game turned into a must-win, and the team delivered. Yakima West reeled off seven straight victories in loser out games to capture the district's lone state tournament berth.

The team avenged its lost to Richland National with a 9-5 win. Yakima West also came back from a 9-0 deficit to beat Pasco. In the championship, the band of 9 and 10 year olds defeated Yakima South.

Yakima West reached the state tournament for the first time in six years. The team has a bye in the opening round and opens play Saturday at 2:00 in Walla Walla.
