Funeral for Yana Samolyuk
PASCO, Wash. - Hundreds were mourning for a young woman found stabbed to death earlier this week.
Friends and family of 18-year-old Yana Samolyuk said goodbye at her funeral in Pasco today. Friends said they were completely shocked by what happened. Many women were wearing traditional head scarves while the service was said in Russian.
Tanya Korotkov is a family friend. She said,"Yana was a good girl, she was trying to make the best for her life. She wanted to be happy. She wanted to have a good family. It's sad."
Yana moved here from Russia four years ago. She meet a friend while the two were taking English classes. They had plans to have lunch together. Viktoriya Chovu said, "Last week, before she died we were suppose to go somewhere, eat somewhere, then when I knew, it was a shock."
Shocking that she was dead and that her husband is in police custody in connection with the murder. Korotkov said, "It's tragic, it was unexpected. They were both good kids. They were friends. I know them both. Very tragic and very shocking."
Yana has a three week old baby girl who is being taken care of by her parents. Family friends are collecting donations for the baby and funeral expenses. Donations are being excepted at any US Bank or HAPO credit union branch.
Chovu said, "I'm happy that I knew her like a friend, but I feel sorry for her and her baby and her husband and everyone."
Family members said Yana's husband, Igor Samolyuk will be in court July 19th for his arraignment. The same day as Yana would have turned 19.
