West Richland could get a new bus service by this fall
WEST RICHLAND, Wash. - If you do not have transportation and you live in West Richland help is on the way. A bus service could soon be a reality.
Ben Franklin Transit wants to add additional service in West Richland. Luke Farnsworth picked up 30 people and still had four hours left of work. He said today's run was, "a little hectic, a lot of trips around the same time. You've got to make it to them on time or as close to on time as you can."
Three years ago buses stopped running in West Richland because ridership was down. The taxi service began working with Ben Franklin Transit. Transit officials said the new Enterprise Middle School, a new Yokes supermarket and huge population growth made these taxi cabs too busy.
Farnsworth said, "We're running up and down this hill so much there's definitely people that want to go places."
He said a lot of younger kids are using these taxis to get to summer school and camp.
Kayla Slater is a student. She said, "I think it's really worth while investment because it will get a lot of the kids back and forth a lot easier."
The Ben Franklin Transit Board of Directors will meet August 10th to vote of the proposal. If it passes they hope to have it in place by August 28.
